The President of CIHEAM Governing Board, Dr. Masum Burak participated in the Second Global Conference, on the Eradication of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), jointly organised by the FAO and OIE. This Second Edition paved the way for the implementation of the first 5-year action plan towards eradication in 2030.
Global Conference aims at providing a platform for high-level political interventions, for representatives from affected and at risk countries and regions to set forth their experiences, challenges and commitments, and for resource partners to express their pledges for support.
On the sidelines of the Conference Dr. Masum Burak met with the Director General of FAO, Mr Graziano Da Silva to discuss the situation in the Mediterranean region where Animal Health is a strategic issue to fight rural poverty, ensure food and nutrition security, and strengthen the resilience of communities.
That is why, Livestock and animal health are one of the priorities that CIHEAM has defined in its Mediterranean Strategic Agenda 2025 aiming at implementing the United-Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in the Region.
