Education
A priority

CIHEAM offers its own educational programme, which complements the one given in member countries national institutions.

CIHEAM's diploma leading education is organised and structured in accordance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfert System). In order to facilitate recognition and improve transparency of its qualifications, CIHEAM awards the diploma supplement as advocated under the Bologna process.

CIHEAM's diploma and specialised courses programmes are divised in partnership with member country institutions.

Two types of education

  Master of Science (120 ECTS)

CIHEAM offers educational programmes in four fields that are essential to rural and agricultural development in the region:

  • Food production and quality management.
  • The environment and natural resources management.
  • Development economics, management and policies.
  • Fisheries and aquaculture.

These programmes are given at the MAIs. The Masters of Science degree (120 ECTS) is awarded at the end of the second year, during which students have to complete a research project.

  Specialised continuing education

These courses, whose length varies from one to three weeks, are designed for public/private sector employees, lecturers/researchers, or officials responsible for development, who already have professionnal experience and wish to improve their knowledge in a particular field or learn about specific analytical tools.

The teaching staff

In the course of their studies and research work, students are supervised by more than 600 top level lecturers/researchers - either permanent members or visiting professors, who are chosen for their expertise and professionnal experience. The diversity of the teaching staff helps to develop the "spirit of international cooperation", which the founders of the Centre wished to promote.
