The Greek Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Stavros Arachovitis, received on June 06, 2019 in Athens a delegation of the CIHEAM composed of Mr. Mohammed Sadiki, President of the Governing Board, Mr. Plácido Plaza, Secretary General of CIHEAM, Mr. Charalambos Kasimis, Secretary General of Agricultural Policy and Management of European Funds of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and also Delegate of Greece to CIHEAM, and Dr. George Baourakis, Director of the CIHEAM Institute of Chania.
Discussions focused on the perspectives and development priorities of the CIHEAM Institute in Chania, namely on postgraduate studies, the promotion of research activities and the cooperation between the Mediterranean countries.
The CIHEAM Action Plan for the Mediterranean (CAPMED 2025), which contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, was also part of the discussions.
Agriculture Minister Stavros Arachovitis, recognizing the importance of CIHEAM's role in the region, informed the delegation that he intends to consider the possibilities of increasing Greece’s contribution to the CIHEAM.
Greece, one of the founding country of the CIHEAM, hosts the CIHEAM-Chania Institute.
