Options Méditerranéennes draws upon the scientific work carried out in CIHEAM's four Mediterranean Agronomic Institutes (MAIs). The review has been promoting the work of the MAI's teachers, researchers and collaborators since the earliest years of the Centre's existence.
From 1970 to 1976, Options Méditerranéennes was a bimonthly review. Between 1981 and 1989, the Journal became a collection of studies.
In 1989, it was published in three series. The serie A "Mediterranean seminars" comprised the issues containing proceedings of seminars, colloquies and meetings organised or part-organised by CIHEAM. The serie B "Studies and Research" contained research papers on Mediterranean agricultures. The serie "Cahiers Options Méditerranéennes" comprised working documents, analyses and studies produced in the context of CIHEAM's activities.
In 2008, the structure, layout and artwork of the Journal, was radically changed. Now, Options Méditerranéennes is published in two series:
1. The serie A "Colloquies and seminars" contains the proceedings of all seminars and meetings organised by CIHEAM at which guest speakers have presented written contributions.
2.The serie B "Studies and Research" contains all studies produced in the context of the MAI's activities by CIHEAM's lecturers and researchers, either working on their own or in cooperation with outside researchers.
