The CIHEAM convenes its Advisory Board (CAB) at the CIHEAM Zaragoza to define its strategic and scientific priorities
Zaragoza, Spain, 28 and 29 April 2026 – The CIHEAM Zaragoza hosted the annual meeting of the CIHEAM Advisory Board (CAB), in the presence of its members and the Secretary General of the Organization, Teodoro Miano.

The proceedings opened with a welcome address from the Director of the Institute, Raul Compés, followed by introductions from the Secretary General and the Advisory Board Chair, Eduardo Rojas Briales. The technical discussions commenced with a comprehensive overview of CIHEAM Zaragoza’s research activities, underscoring the vital role of the Institute’s scientific initiatives in tackling today’s agricultural and environmental challenges.
The first day was notably dedicated to closed-door deliberations and the conduct of oral interviews for the awarding of the 2025 Best CIHEAM Master of Science Thesis Award..


Strategic orientations and distinctions
On the second day, the Committee focused on the CIHEAM Strategic Plan 2030, specifically aiming to align the Advisory Board’s objectives with the Organization’s long-term vision. Members engaged in a productive exchange on the Board’s internal dynamics to optimize its contribution to CIHEAM’s broader missions. The session concluded by outlining a clear roadmap for the CAB, defining its strategic priorities and future activities.
This 2026 session was also marked by two significant items:
- the election of the second Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board (result to be announced); and
- the awarding of the title of CIHEAM Emeritus Professor to Constantin Zopounidis, in recognition of his career and his valuable contribution to the institution’s academic influence!
This annual meeting between the CIHEAM and its Advisory Board is of key importance in shaping the strategic orientations of the Organization towards a sustainable future for Mediterranean territories.
