
In 2022, on the occasion of its 60th anniversary, the CIHEAM has inaugurated the CIHEAM Youth Innovation Award with the aim of projecting the organization into the Mediterranean of tomorrow, responding to new emerging challenges, and mobilizing young people.


THE WINNER OF THE LAST EDITION OF THE CIHEAM INNOVATION AWARD IS
M. Hasan Jaafar
Presented by Hasan Jaafar, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of YY ReGen, the ReGen-R8 project won first place and was awarded a €10,000 grant.
ReGen-R8 is an on-demand renewable energy platform that uses AI to help farmers adopt sustainable practices. This modular solar system provides clean and reliable energy for a variety of agricultural needs. Through a rental model that includes operation and maintenance, ReGen-R8 reduces farmers’ energy costs by 40 to 50% compared to diesel generators.

Price for the 2023 edition
Mr. Ezzudeen EISAWI (student of CIHEAM Bari) was rewarded for his professional project "INSPOT Innovation" thanks to its innovative and disruptive nature. His project aims to improve waste management through the introduction of insect recycling technology and contribute to improving food security and sovereignty in Egypt.
The CIHEAM Youth Innovation Award jury made up of representatives of the CIHEAM Advisory Board, partners from international organizations (CMI-UNOPS), the private sector (BusinessMed), start-ups and incubators, and civil society (Generation Earth), estimated that his professional project was in line with the CAPMED objectives and the SDGs and that it holds great potential for replicability of its methodology across the Mediterranean basin.
