In Paris, the CIHEAM continues its dialogue with Mediterranean ambassadors
On 15 April 2026, at the invitation of the Spanish Embassy, the CIHEAM organised the second edition of the Ambassadors’ Luncheon in Paris. Building upon the dialogue initiated in 2025, this high-level meeting reinforces the position of the CIHEAM as a key actor for consultation and cooperation in the Mediterranean.

Bringing together ambassadors from Member States as well as from Mediterranean countries engaged in a process of rapprochement with the CIHEAM, this event provided an enabling environment for in-depth discussions on the major challenges shaping the the future of the region. Discussions focused in particular on the role of specialised agricultural training, the transition of agri-food systems, sustainable water management and adaptation to climate change, with special attention paid to the role of women and young people.

In an international environment marked by an escalation of crises, the discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening the conditions for multilateral dialogue in support of peace and of demonstrating solidarity with the populations affected by the conflicts in Palestine and Lebanon. In this context, food and agriculture appear more than ever as drivers of stability, resilience and rapprochement between the two sides.
The discussions also provided an opportunity to put into perspective the priorities of the 13th CIHEAM Ministerial Meeting, scheduled in Rome in November 2026. This meeting will be an important milestone in reaffirming the collective commitment to sustainable agri-food systems. The issue of water, identified as a cross-cutting strategic challenge for the region, was the subject of particular attention.

Beyond the topics discussed, this second edition confirmed the need for regular dialogue between the CIHEAM and diplomatic missions. It provided an opportunity to discuss areas of common ground, open up new avenues for cooperation and build collective momentum in support of a united and prosperous Mediterranean.
