Montpellier, 24–25 April 2025 – The CIHEAM Montpellier hosted the annual meeting of the CIHEAM Advisory Board (CAB), attended by its members and the Secretary General of the CIHEAM, Mr Teodoro Miano.
Following a welcome address by the Director of the Institute, Mr Thierry Dupeuble, and an introduction by the President of the Board, Professor Chadi Abdallah (Lebanon), members were presented with an overview of the research activities conducted at the CIHEAM Montpellier, demonstrating the Organisation’s commitment to innovative and sustainable solutions for the Mediterranean region.
The discussions focused on several key topics:
- The evolution of the evaluation process for the CIHEAM Best Thesis Award;
- The role and functioning of the Advisory Board;
- A strategic in-depth reflection on the CIHEAM’s educational model and the editorial direction of the Options Méditerranéennes journal.
The second day included a visit to CIRAD, featuring presentations from the QUALISUD and BioWooEB research units, highlighting the importance of scientific partnerships in building a resilient future for Mediterranean territories.
End of Mandate and New Members
This 2025 session also marked the end of the mandates of Professor Chadi Abdallah (President), Dr Faten Khamassi (Tunisia), Dr Ilir Kapaj (Albania), and Dr Carlos Carmona Bello (Portugal). The CIHEAM extends its sincere thanks to each of them for their commitment and valuable contributions to the vitality of the Advisory Board.
In accordance with the decision of the Governing Board in December 2024, four new members will join the Advisory Board as of June 2025:
- Ms İlkem Demirkesen Mert (Türkiye), from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry;
- Ms Rabab Mamdouh Elamawi (Egypt), Senior Researcher at the Rice Research & Training Centre (RRTC);
- Mr George Migiros (Greece), Professor Emeritus at the University of Athens;
- Mr Stefano Dumontet (Italy), retired Full Professor and President of the Italian Scientific Society of Environmental Nutrition and Soil Science.
The CIHEAM is pleased to welcome these new experts to its Advisory Board, whose work will continue to guide the Organisation’s strategic direction in support of sustainable development across the Mediterranean region.
