CIHEAM CHANIA postgraduate MSc degrees are equivalent to all Greek university post-graduate studies

An important outstanding issue concerning the qualifications of the Mediterranean Agricultural Institute of Chania was completely and definitively resolved and finalized by a provision included in the bill voted in by the Ministry of Education and Religion, on the initiative of the Deputy Minister in charge, Mr Vasilis Digalakis.

This provision amends Article 46 of Law 4559/2018, in order to clearly state that the qualifications awarded by the International Center of Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (ICAMAS/CIHEAM), including from the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, which is a branch of the International Center of Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, are equivalent to the postgraduate diplomas of the Higher Education Institutions of Greece, regardless of the year they were awarded.

The specific regulation was necessary for reasons of equal treatment of all beneficiaries, as there are applications for the recognition of the conversion granted by the CIHEAM CHANIA degrees, which were pending before the Interdisciplinary Organization for the Recognition of Titles (D.O.A.T.A.P.), for degrees that had been granted before the entry into force of this article, in 2018.

Now, the issue is addressed uniformly, so that all the postgraduate diplomas awarded by the Organization, regardless of the year of their granting by CIHEAM CHANIA, are recognized as equivalent.

The legislation stipulates that the legal effects of the relevant conversion will occur exclusively from the time of the examination and issuance of a decision by the competent authorities on the pending requests for recognition, in accordance with current legislation, and provided that the conditions of Article 115 of Law 3328/ are met.

It is recalled that two legislative regulations had been made on this issue, in 2014 and 2018, but it was absolutely necessary for this new legislation and the provision for the conversion of all postgraduate diplomas granted by the CIHEAM CHANIA, regardless of the year they were awarded, in order for the matter to be fully and definitively finalized.
