The digital journey in Mediterranean agrifood systems continues…
30 Jun 2025 – The SFS-MED Platform is pleased to announce the new version of “Sustainable agrifood
systems in the Mediterranean - Levers for transformation”!

Available in both English and French, this digital tool showcases 8 catalytic levers for transforming agrifood systems in the Mediterranean and 38 inspiring experiences telling the stories of people and organizations committed to driving change through mutual learning, cooperation and innovative ideas.
What is a catalytic lever?
It’s a strategic entry point in an agrifood system where targeted actions can trigger wider, lasting
positive change simultaneously across multiple parts of the system.
The levers for transformation respond to the trends, priorities and challenges identified in most
Mediterranean countries that have developed pathways towards agrifood systems transformation as
part of their engagement in the United Nations Food Systems Summit process.
With the UN Food Systems Summit +4 Stocktake approaching, these strategic but practical entry points
to transformation prove very relevant to the Mediterranean and beyond, and underscore how regional
cooperation around key levers can inspire positive change in agrifood systems.
Drawing on four years of dialogue, peer exchange and shared learning through the SFS-MED Platform,
the tool embodies a core message: transformation is already underway. All across the Mediterranean,
from city-level innovation to cross-sector alliances, each experience shows what’s possible when we
build bridges between policies, practices, people and cultures.
About the SFS-MED Platform
As a collaborative initiative of FAO, the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic
Studies (CIHEAM), the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), and the Partnership for
Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA), the SFS-MED Platform stands as an
affiliated project of the One Planet Network’s Sustainable Food Systems Programme. With the financial
support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, the SFS-MED Platform
connects stakeholders, fosters collaboration and coordination at various levels (regional, national, sub-
national, municipal) and across diverse sectors (public/government, private, academia and research,
farmers, consumers, civil society, etc.) to overcome the fragmentation of agrifood interventions. Its
overarching goal is to accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda at Mediterranean level, facilitating the
transformation towards more sustainable, efficient, nutritious, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems.
