01.10.2025
On 17 September, the CIHEAM conducted a one-day visit to the United Nations University-FLORES, the Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources of the United Nations, in Dresden, with the aim of strengthening dialogue and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
This meeting followed the initial exchanges held in France between the CIHEAM Secretary General Professor Teodoro Miano and UNU-FLORES Director Professor Edeltraud Günther. It contributed to consolidating the foundations of a promising academic and scientific partnership, focused on sharing expertise and pooling resources.

Towards Enhanced Cooperation
Throughout the day, the teams of UNU-FLORES presented their approach to research, training, and advocacy through the lens of the Soil–Water–Food Nexus. In turn, the CIHEAM representatives shared their experience and Mediterranean perspective on issues related to agriculture, sustainability, and food security.
Enriched by presentations from UNU-FLORES doctoral students from India, Egypt, and Tunisia, the interactive exchanges contributed to identifying concrete and promising areas of cooperation.

A Dynamic to be Pursued
Following this visit, a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) has already been outlined between the two institutions, setting out shared objectives for the short, medium, and long term. The Director of UNU-FLORES has also been invited to participate in the upcoming CIHEAM Directors’ meeting, to continue the dialogue and jointly define the next steps of this collaboration.
Through this partnership, the CIHEAM reaffirms its commitment to expanding strategic collaborations and providing its students and researchers with enhanced academic and professional opportunities within an international framework of excellence.
