Mediterra 2008

Mediterra 2008 is dedicated on the future of Agriculture and Food in Mediterranean Countries. CIHEAM's new Annual Report provides a prospective study of the situation likely to be facing Mediterranean Agriculture, Food and Rural affairs in 2020.

The analysis took place in a context characterised simultaneously by agriculture’s return to prominence and a resurgence of the political debate surrounding the practical modalities of Mediterranean cooperation.

Given that the period in which the report was compiled was also characterised by renewed environmental awareness, growing concern about food and nutrition and the rediscovery that agriculture and rural affairs can be the mainstay for the development of societies, the extent to which Mediterra 2008 is a strategic tool for contemplating Mediterranean agriculture and considering its future is clear.

Finally, this report calls for a comprehensive Euro-Mediterranean policy for agriculture and the environment. In a world that has become multi-centred, it is imperative that Europe and Mediterranean region join forces rather than lose momentum going their separate ways.

Mediterra 2008 will be published in English and French on 10 April 2008, and then in Spanish, Italian and Arabic.
